Obituary for Phillip Ernesto Serrano

Phillip Ernesto Serrano was born April 23, 1974 in Ogden, Utah. He spent some of his childhood in New Mexico, but was primarily raised in Round Mountain, Nevada; where he completed grade school and then went on to graduate from Tonopah High School in 1992.

He loved being a part of the Tonopah Muckers Football Team and had a great passion for the game; he also participated in track and basketball during his school years. He was adventurous and was always willing to try something new, which led to him climbing onto a saddle and trying his hand at rodeo with his Aunt Cindy and Grandpa Pete.

Phillip continued his education at Northern Nevada Community College in Elko, Nevada, where he earned a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He went on to use these skills to develop a career that he loved and excelled at. He was an extraordinary mechanic; there wasn’t a problem he couldn’t fix for anyone that ever asked. Tools in hand, he was always ready to help out wherever he could.

The Dallas Cowboys; that was his team. Sundays were spent on the couch watching the game with his dad. Win or lose, he was always true to his team, even when his Grandpa Pete would tease him about the Cowboys losing their “panties” on the field.

Phillip comes from a large family, over 10 Aunts, numerous Uncles and more than 15 Cousins. This was a large enough audience for Phillip to entertain; and that he did. Jokes he would tell, stories he would share, but more important was the smile on his face as he spoke; that is what we will remember most. He always wanted people to laugh and to be at peace with one another and he used his humor to obtain that.

Having come from such a large family, Phillip held the distinct title of the “First Grandson,” and boy did he get some mileage out of that. Whenever Christmas or his birthday would come around he was quick to remind everyone that he should receive 2 gifts because of this “position” which he held. Needless to say, there was a lot of ribbing at his expense. These “expected” preferential treatments included making him sandwiches, clipping his toenails, massaging his back, bringing him cold drinks; most of which rarely ever happened. Again, making us laugh and smile.

Phillip will forever be remembered for his great personality, creative sense of humor, his incredible ability to retain information, and for the love that he had for his family.

He loved the Lord and had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. It’s because of his relationship with Jesus that we have confidence that we will see Phillip again. John 3:3 and Romans 6:23.

Phillip is survived by his Parents- Johnny and Carol Mascarenas of Reno; Daughter- Desiree (Freddie) Serrano of Arizona; Grandchildren- Elijah, Ryan and Mason; Sister and Best Friend- Michelle (Jason) Tripp of Reno; Niece- Faith Tripp; Grandmother- Rebecca Kesl of Overton; numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, his little dog Emit and many Friends that loved him.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers- Pete Kesl and Jacob Mascarenas, his Grandmother- Celina Mascarenas and Cousins- Christopher Serrano and Leroy Jr. Mascarenas.

A precious life taken to soon, on September 24, 2018. Phillip’s Celebration of Life was held on September 28, 2018 in Reno, Nevada.

II Timothy 4:6-8
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
