Obituary for John Rodney Crabtree

On September 14th 2019 John Rodney Crabtree passed away at the age of 75.

John "Rod" Crabtree was a Veteran of the Navy having last served on the USS Washoe County. In the Navy he was an Engineman 1st class, serving and traveling through Vietnam, Korea and the far east. This is where he learned his life long love of repairing and building hot rods and trucks. After his 8 years of active duty, he served 12 years in the Naval Reserves.

After serving in the Navy, he moved to Reno, NV where he became a firefighter for our community. He felt the need to help the people of his new community as he had found as his true home. He met the love of his life, Jackie and they started their life and family together with two sons Charlie and John.

Rod loved the water and spent his off time with his family in the Sacramento delta working on their boat and fishing. Never letting anything stop him, once retired he worked with Nevada's Operation Recognition to earn his high school diploma at the age of 67. He loved to work with wood and his close friends and family all have one of his birdhouses in their yards. Rod was very proud of his accomplishments and upgrades at his and Jackie's home and property in north Reno. Later in life, Rod took many young veterans under his wing to help them understand and utilize the most of the benefits they earned.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Jackie, his sons Charlie and John, his daughters in law Veronica and Katy, grandchildren Ally J and John, and his brother Bill.

Celebration of life is planned at a later date for close friends and family.
